Starting with a New Nanny Family
Ready, Go
Starting over with a new nanny family can be overwhelming. There is so much to learn! Here are some tips for adjusting to your new nanny family.
Work Agreement
Make sure to collaborate on a highly detailed work agreement before starting a regular schedule. Your work agreement should explain the employment terms and job responsibilities.
Training Day
Before flying solo, schedule a training day. This is your chance to work side-by-side with your new employer. Ask questions about the children’s routine, meals, daily activities, and childcare preferences. Make sure to take notes. We recommend creating a nanny binder to help keep details in one place.
Ease Into the Routine
Children thrive on routine and will welcome a new caregiver more readily if disruptions are minimized. Follow the existing schedule and spend time observing. Be sure to inform your new employers if any changes occur along the way. Always make it a priority to collaborate on the children’s well-being.
Give it Time
It’s okay if it’s hard in the beginning! We’ve been there too. It can take weeks or months to bond. Keep an open line of communication with your new nanny family. Ask for feedback and be open to any tips they offer. Keep a positive and professional mindset. Building lasting relationships is worth the effort!
